Press Release on NMA's present condition
Date: 2009-12-09

As per the decision made by the Central Executive Committee of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) convened on 1 December, 2009, considering the possibilities of creating some confusion by some unauthorized person/s, this press release has been issued to disseminate the truth in the interest of all concerned.

The election held on July 15, 2005 had elected new Central Executive Committee of NMA and on its completion of three years tenure the committee had announced the election schedule for the new Executive Board on June 13, 2008 and July 11, 2008. The election could not take place on both the dates due to some hindrance and obstacles caused beyond  NMA's control and was notified the same to all concerned. On the pretext of disturbed election, Govt. of Nepal, Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has formed a Task Force with the terms of reference of carrying out NMA's day to day functioning and holding election within six months of its tenure using partial rights enjoyed by NMA's Central Executive Board. Previously formed Task Force has completed its tenure on 16 September 2009 & could not succeed to hold NMA's election, thus a vaccum has been created in the NMA's management.

In the light of above context, responsible NMA officials and Board members have put an application to the office of Chief District Officer demanding the revival of last Central Executive Committee, which was derailed by the formation of the Task Force, with a purpose of continuing NMA's developmental, administrative and financial activities stalled for last 16 months. After the verification and examination of the truth as demanded by the applicants, the Chief District Officer, the chief regulatory body of NGO's like NMA and others, has issued an instruction letter addressed to Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa, President, and the Central Executive Committee stating that  "The Ad-hoc Committee formed in NMA after July 16, 2008, the formation of the Task Force, the elected Central Executive Committee of Mr. Sangay Sherpa, and Mr. Zimba Zangbu Sherpa as President has been looked upon in contravention of the provisions of NMA charter, therefore, the then Central Executive Committee and President Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa has been instructed & authorized to look upon all the NMA activities, hold the election within three months from the date of such decision made on November 19, 2009 and report the election result."

In continuation/ honour of the letter issued by the office of CDO, we feel proud to announce that, the Central Executive Board Meeting was held on December 1, 2009 under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa and took appropriate decisions to address the stalled activities in accordance with the financial and administrative regulations of NMA and it's charter and other relevant authorities & instructions received from higher offices and line ministries.

Hence, the then Central Executive Committee has officially resumed its office on December 1, 2009 and this press release has been issued in the interest of all concerned to inform that whoever presents him/herself as authorized official/s of NMA, other than the one mentioned above, be considered as fake and unauthorized one.
