16th Anniversay of International Mountain Museum (IMM) celebrated- 5 Feb

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) organized a special program on 5 Feb 2019 to mark the completion of 16 years of establishment of International Mountain Museum (IMM) in Pokhara. Hon'ble Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari was the chief guest of the program. Her Excellency Elisabeth von Capeller, Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal also attended the program as the special guest of the program. The program started with the offering garland to the statues of three major contributors of IMM- Kumar Khadga Bikram Shah, Dr. Harka Gurung and Dawa Norbu Sherpa. On the same day, the chief guest also inaugurated the corner of first Nepalese woman Everest climber Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, youngest climber (1973 – 2000) Sambhu Tamang and winner of the Sherpa of Year Mingma David Sherpa. The chief guest and the special guest jointly inaugurated the photo exhibition on Half Century Old photos of Photos taken by world famous geographer Tony Hagen. Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City Man Bahadur GC, Dr. Katrin Hagen ( Tony Hagen's daughter), NMA Executive Board Members, advisers, representatives of travel related organizations were also present in the program. In the same program, the chief guest felicitated museologist of IMM Bal Prasad Rai for his outstanding contribution to IMM since its establishment followed by the award to the IMM Best Staff 2018 Saraswati Nepali. On behalf of NMA, General Secretary Kul Bahadur Gurung presented the report of IMM in powerpoint from since the start of construction of IMM till today. The program concluded with the vote of thanks from the chairman of the program, President of NMA Santa Bir Lama.

Speech competition on IMM and its importance for the development of tourism in Pokhara for the students of higher secondary school was also organized on the same day.

Mountain Guide Certification Course (MGCC)-2019

Nepal Mountaineering Association and Nepal National Mountain Guide Association jointly organized Mountain Guide Certification Course from 22nd February to 21st March 2019. The participants on this training left for Rollowaling on 23rd February 2019. Ist Vice President Deebas Bikram Shah, General Secretary Kul Bahadur Gurung and other board members saw off the participants in the special program organized at NMA secretariat.

 

Mountain leader Course Winter Component 2019

Nepal Mountaineering Association organized Mountain leader Course Winter Component from 20th February to 9th March 2019 at Kathmandu and Gosaikunda area. The participants on this training left for Gosaikunda on 25th February 2019.

Heartfelt condolence from NMA- 28 Feb

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) is saddened to hear the sudden demise of Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Rabindra Adhikari, Chairman of Yeti Airlines and tourism veteran Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa, Deputy Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Mr. Birendra Shrestha, Under Secretary at the Prime Minister’s office Mr. Yubaraj Dahal, CAAN Engineer Dhruba Das Bhochhibhaya, Captain Prabhakar KC and Security Personnel Arjun Ghimire in a tragic helicopter accident on 27 February 2019 in Taplejung.

NMA feels the accident as the long lasting loss for the development of tourism and aviation sector of our country.

On behalf of NMA, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for their strength and courage to persevere and overcome this painful period.

May the departed souls rest in eternal peace.
