Introduction:

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and Nepal Climbing Team (NCT) are pleased to announce the "2nd Ice Climbing Festival -2020" in Humde, Manang (1st Feb- 10th Feb 2020).

Nepal Mountaineering Association was established on 1 November 1973 (2030 Kartik 16) Thursday. It is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organization working as a national alpine association of Nepal to promote mountain tourism, climbing sports, protect mountain environments and preserve and promote cultural heritage of mountain people. It is the only national alpine club authorized to issue climbing permits for 27 mountain peaks of Nepal.

Nepal Climbing Team is group of professional and expert climber dedicated to promote safe adventure activities, sports in the locality level, state and in the nation. Our resources are primarily used for preparing novice climbers interested in pursuing active lifestyle. NCT events are well attended by members of local environmental groups, outdoor organization, and students.

Last year’s event was an unprecedented success. More than 20 national and international people, local participants enjoyed adventure in ice climbing, skiing and archery. The purpose of this ice climbing festival is to establish a stronger outdoor adventure community by networking amongst mountaineer, government body, college students, friends, local business, sponsors and tourists. We are coordinating Ice Climbing activities, movies, archery, awareness program, explore more climbing spot in Manang area, climbing competition, gear demo and briefing about winter mountaineering. In addition to introducing countless outdoor enthusiasts to the region, we gladly offer a number of significant commercial advantages to any organization that provides goods and service to support our event.

Brief synopsis

Climbers, novice to pro, are invited to join us for big fun in the big frozen waterfalls outside our doorstep in the shadows of the Annapurnas from February 1 - 10, 2020.

At 3 200m Humde, Manang sets the annual scene for the Ice Climbing Festival co-hosted by the Nepal Climbing Team and the Nepal Mountaineering Association with the support of Visit Nepal 2020 Secretariat.

Throughout the festival IFMGA instructors will lead interactive and educational climbing clinics to accommodate every skill level and ensure safety is a priority. While Humde is developing as a winter sport mecca between climbs there will be opportunities for skiing, participate in archery, local dance and cultural activities.

Overview 

Keeping the motto of ‘’Visit Nepal 2020’’ in mind, we have come forth with this unique project.  Nepal is famous for Mountaineering, Trekking, World Heritage Sites and Bio Diversity. But there are much more in Nepal to explore than just regular recreational activities.

We would like to introduce and take the Ice Climbing Sport further as an extreme adventure activity in Nepal. The “2nd  Ice Climbing Festival 2020” is an ambitious project of “Nepal Climbing Team (NCT)” joint event with Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) to recognize Nepal as the major ice climbing hub in the world.

Objectives

1. To offer a life time experience to ice climbing around the world in Visit Nepal Year 2020
2. Warmer the climate, lesser the ice: save nature for future generation.
3. Spreading awareness program towards climate change.
4. To introduce Nepal as a major ice climbing hub in the world.
5. To make people aware about the benefit of Ice Climbing in tourism Industry.
6. To encourage people's participation in adventure sports.
7. To develop Ice Climbing as the part of adventure game.
8. Ice Climbing is hidden sports in Nepal, this festival will let the people about Ice Climbing.
9. Research and promotion of tourism in Manang.
10. To establish the Ice Climbing destination in Manang and to promote Manang as an adventure sports destination.
11. Empower and encourage local women and girls in ice climbing in Manang.
12. Organizing awareness program locally about importance of wildlife animals.

10. With initiation of this project, we will open a gateway to a new sport  which will create opportunities for National athletes to make them known throughout the world.
11. This festival will continue in the yearly calendar based.
12. To motivate the climbers and stake holders to work together in the days to come for nation pride ice climbing festival.

Leave Kathmandu by bus to Beisishar; jeep onwards. Destination TBD based on traffic and weather conditions..
