The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) marked the 45th World Tourism Day with a range of activities at the International Mountain Museum (IMM) in Pokhara.
On the occasion, the NMA offered a 25 percent discount on entry tickets to all visitors coming to the IMM on 26th September. It also put the photos of Nepal’s mountains captured by the famous Russian climber and photographer Mr. Yuri Rodichev in a permanent exhibition at the IMM.
The photo exhibition was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, the Honorable Surendra Raj Pandey. The Honorable Chief Minister Pandey also unveiled the book entitled “The Himalayas,” written by Mr. Yuri himself.
In Kathmandu, the NMA participated in the celebration of the 45th World Tourism Day organized by the government (Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation). The Ministry held a ceremony at Rastriya Nachghar in Jamal, where many individuals were recognized for their contributions to advancing Nepal’s tourism.
At the recommendation of the NMA, the government honored two record-holding climbers, Ms. Phunjo Jhangmu Lama and Ms. Purnima Shrestha. Ms. Phunjo holds the Guinness World Record for summiting Mount Everest in the shortest time by a female, while Ms. Purnima holds the distinct record for summiting Mount Everest three times in a single season.
