Annapurna Rescue Center
A rescue operation center is a primary search and rescue facility at Annapurna base camp, which will be staffed by supervisory personnel and equipped for coordinating and controlling search and rescue operations in Annapurna region. This is joint cooperation of Korean Telecom, Nepal Mountaineering Association and Um Hong Gill Foundation for the speedy action in rescue during the time of emergency.
The main objective of the rescue center is to meet the vision of Digital Nepal Framework 2018, which seeks to transform the country into a digitally connected society through efficient use of information and communications technology.
In November of 2019, Korean Telecom, Korea's largest telephone company, completed the construction of the rescue center incorporating cutting-edge information and communication technology at the main entrance to the base camp of Machhapuchhre in Annapurna.
Annapurna Rescue Center will help to provide safety in the tourism industry of Annapurna and other regions. This will improve quick response against emergency situations with information technology for tourists in Annapurna and other regions of Nepal. This will enable tourists to get reliefs to travel and trek in Nepal. The center will use a specialized drone which has an infrared heat sensor so that it can effectively locate missing tourists. The drone will also have a camera and a medicine box.Solo trekkers will also be able to take a sensor with them which will be synced with the drone. The sensor will give the rescue center the trekker’s exact location.
