Mr. Mathias Herzog, the son of the late Maurice Herzog, plans to bring the remaining climbing equipment used by his father during the historic ascent of Mount Annapurna to Nepal.
Mr. Mathias shared his idea in a meeting with Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) officials at its Secretariat in Nagpokhari, Naxal. A businessman and yoga guru, he remarked, “It is a privilege to be the son of Maurice Herzog, a pioneer in the world of mountaineering.” He added, “My mother and I are aiming to bring the remaining climbing gear used by my father to Nepal for a commemorative exhibition. We have also reached out to the French Embassy in Nepal for collaboration and are hopeful that we can bring all these gear by next year.”
Maurice Herzog and his team made history in 1950 by becoming the first to successfully summit an 8,000-meter peak, Mount Annapurna.
Mr. Mathias received a warm welcome from senior officials of the NMA, including Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi, Director General of the Department of Tourism (DoT); Mr. Thakur Raj Pandey, Acting President of the NMA; Mr. Dhan Bahadur Gurung, Acting General Secretary; Mr. Diwas Pokhrel, Central Executive Board Member; and Mr. Jinesh Sindurakar, Chief Administrative Officer.
Both DG Mr. Regmi and Acting President Mr. Pandey pledged their support for Mr. Mathias’s efforts to bring the remaining climbing equipment of the late Maurice Herzog to Nepal.
