NMA & SAF embark on a partnership for the sustainability of Nepali mountain tourism

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has signed an MoU with Seoul Alpine Federation (SAF), entering into a mutual agreement for the betterment of mountain tourism in Nepal.

The MoU was signed by the president of NMA Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa in witness of Senior Vice-President Mr. Thakur Raj Pandey and Chairman of SAF Mr. Chea En Seok in witness of Vice-Chairman of SAF Mr. Mi Gon Kim amid a function at NMA secretariat Nagpokhari Naxal Kathmandu on 24th October 2022.

The MoU aims at collaboration between the organizations for the sustainability of Nepali mountain tourism.

As per the MoU, NMA will build an emergency rescue center with exclusive financial support from SAF. The NMA will finalize the place for the proposed rescue center.

NMA will also upgrade Kim Migon’s corner at the International Mountain Museum (IMM). The SAF will also host the NMA team in Korea for a knowledge exchange program.

SAF has also agreed to support the NMA financially in conducting various mountaineering training in Nepal and managing welfare funds established by the NMA.

Heads of both organizations expressed their gratitude to each other and hailed the act as crucial for the sustainability of Nepali mountain tourism.

NMA president Mr. Sherpa stressed the importance of establishing infrastructure, producing and empowering mountaineers.

‘‘The problems triggered by Global warming are the most challenging for all of us. It has also endangered the mountains and mountain tourism’’, President Mr. Sherpa said, ‘‘We should focus on building infrastructures, producing skillful mountaineers and empowering them to survive the situation. We should work together for this and this partnership will play an important role in supporting Nepali mountain tourism to survive such a situation.’’

The Chairman of SAF Mr. Chea committed to be honest with the MoU. ‘‘Nepal has been blessed with beautiful mountains and we are coming to Nepal every year to experience the real adventure of expedition’’, Chairman Mr. Chea said, ‘‘We are happy to be connected with the NMA. We will be committed to the MoU. We hope all the mutually agreed projects will be implemented soon.’’
