Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) today extended a warm welcome to the Chairman of the Nippon Foundation (TNF), Mr. Yohei Sasakawa at its Secretariat.
The World Health Organization (WHO) goodwill ambassador for leprosy elimination, Mr. Yohei Sasakawa is currently in Nepal visit and has paid a courtesy visit to the NMA Secretariat. Chairman Sasakawa was received by NMA President Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa, Director General of Department of Tourism, Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi, Immediate Past President, Mr. Santa Bir Lama, Senior Vice President, Mr. Thakur Raj Pandey, Secretary Mr. Dhan Bahadur Gurung, and former General Secretary Mr. Kul Bahadur Gurung.
He was then greeted by NMA President Mr.
Sherpa and other officials with NMA khada and taken to the NMA secretariat
tour. Chairman Sasakawa and his organization The Nippon Foundation has been
NMA’s supporter during the time of crisis.
The Foundation had supported the NMA with 2
lakh 13 thousand USD during the time of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in 2021. Using
this grant the NMA had distributed food relief materials and health kits to
3000 COVID-affected mountaineers and leprosy-affected people.
During this meeting, the NMA has also proposed
the Foundation for further collaboration. According to the NMA president Mr.
Sherpa during this informal discussion, the NMA has requested Mr. Chairman
Sasakawa to support the organization of mountaineering training in Nepal.
“We had informally discussed continuing our
collaboration and we had requested Chairman Sasakawa to support the NMA to
organize the mountaineering training,” NMA president shared, “We are hopeful
that the Nippon Foundation will please our request.”
